Hi, just to let you know how Fernie is getting on. We bought her home on 10th Feb 2008 and can't believe we've only had her 6 weeks, it seems like she's always been with us. After a difficult first night (lots of poos and wee) and a couple of nights letting her out at 3.00 am, she settled into the routine of 3 walks and has been clean in the house since. She tolerates the youngest child (2), but really likes the older one (4) who helps me walk her and gives her "proper" fuss. She is very loving and playful - we just have to watch where the kids toys are (Fernie especially likes pink fluffy toys!) and also be careful not to leave food around as she can jump up to the worktops! We are about to start some doggy sociallising classes as she is very timid and tries to run away when she sees another dog on her walks. After 6 weeks though she has settled better than expected and its wonderful to have a greyhoud in the house again. Thank you Clarks Farm!

just a few lines to let you know how Bailey (lordsbury lola) is getting on since we brought her home last may.She loves going for walks.Always ready for a cuddle. She is a real pig when it comes to food, always trying to scrounge. She settled in right away, she seemed to know this was now her home.We would not be without her now.

We picked up Chloe from Clarks Farm just a few days after Christmas, she's a very nervous dog but Steve said she would be perfect to fit in with Mo and Eric. How right you were Steve, she's a little sweetheart and has settled in really well. She's been so good that we've started letting her off the lead and she loves to run free but always comes back. She's a wonderful little girl and we love her to bits, thank you Steve for picking her for us.

Just a few lines to say thank you so much to clarks farm for bringing Dods Dawn into our lives. She has settled in so well, after only four weeks, we just could not imagine life without her now. She really has come out of her shell after those first few days when she was so unsure of her new life and the new experience of living in a house, but day by day she has shown what a fantastic pet she is. The things she loves most.... food, the sofa, having her belly rubbed first thing in the morning as she is fully stretched out on the sofa, with legs apart! long walks with her best greyhond friend sam, chasing rabbits when we are down the country park, and plenty more besides! Everyone who has met her has said what a gorgeous girl she is, we are so proud of her. A big thankyou to Steve at clarks farm for putting us together, when we first set eyes on her we just knew she was the one for us. Thank you so much once again, you do such a fantastic job.

Hi All. Just to let you know, we have had Lucy ( Horseshoe Lucy) just 2 weeks now and she has settled in soooooo well !! She is a real character . In just two weeks she and the cat have made friends, all the local dog walkers and their dogs love her, and she is so at home she has started knicking things and hiding them in her duvet !!! ( ie cuddly toys tele remote and toilet rolls!) We feel so lucky and love her to bits! Thanks again and Happy New Year.

Thanks for raising Greyhound awareness Clarks and all greyhound owners alike, what a great website you have. We live in Jersey and had a lovely black boy (Paddy) from Gail and Mal in September 06. He has settled in perfectly and we would never want to be without him now. I never wanted a dog let alone a greyhound, they are so big but now I want another (I'm so glad my husband and kids talked me into it!!) We were interested in Mullott at Clarks but have kind of had second thoughts as our 7 month old boy has started to take an interest in Paddy and luckily he is very placid and can put up with ear pulling and being driven over by a baby walker now and again! it would be unfair to introduce a new dog into this chaos!!! I would have them all if I could. Much respect to you all x

Just to wish you all a Happy New year and to keep up the hard work, we brought home Come home pixie on saturday 21st december to let you know that she has found the sofa at last, she is still nervous but the licks(Kisses) and the tail wags are coming thick and fast. She has settled well with Gus (yes but no but) our other greyhound from you and they love chasing each other round on walks. The other three dogs have been ok with her to, don't know if we dare come to next years open day as I am not sure that the house would hold 6 dogs, i am sure that Liz would disagree! Thanks again to all of you, we are trying to encourage all we meet to consider a greyhound as a pet and will continue to, as we know so many are not as lucky as those you have under your wing. Have a great 2008!!!!

we got Milly from Clarks farm a few years ago and she has proved to be a great family dog, so even tempered and no trouble whatsoever. clarks farm do a great job and i only wish that more people would realise what great pets they make, its just a shame that so many ex racers don't even get a chance to be rehomed. the ones at clarks farm are the lucky ones. carry on the good work clarks farm and thank you.

Just wanted to say what a fantastic job you all do at Clarks Farm. This year has been tough for us as we lost our beautiful greyhound bitch Vicki, we rescued her when she was little more than a pup, aged 18months, as a companion for our rescued lakeland terrier, Ramsay. Vicki was with us for 11 years and losing her was hard, 6 months later we lost Ramsay too, he had been with us for almost 13years. One look at your website and we were sold! We visited on November 24th and came home with the most beautiful girl - Missy (Miss Kilross) she is an absolute dream and settled in really well right from the start. We are now beginning to see her true character and she loves nothing more than to be loved!! We constantly visit your website and are seriously considering the possibilty of adopting another greyhound.
| garry trew | 20 December 2007 00:00:00 |
just thought id write and let you know what a great website this is and hopefully in the near future we will pay you a visit to arrange a home check so that we can adopt one of your greyhounds

Ruby has been with us for four weeks now and is almost settled . At first she was very wary of me but ok with Joan. Now she gets up on the settee next to me and this week she let me put her collar and coat on her for the first time. Up till now she would only let Joan do this. She is gradually making new friends, human and dogs, and the big one will be Christmas with the family. Eleven people, two greyhounds, one labrador and a six stone retriever in the dining room and Ruby is a cunning food thief!! Happy Christmas to all.

i left a comment the other month, and wrote 'I really want to adopt a greyhound and I have just found the perfect one!! Hope that we get her in the end!' and her name was susie. as i was looking at this page, my parents rang and said they were at clarks and mentioned that they had found a dog called susie and another one called claryss, and it was the same dog i was looking at. we got them both in the end and they are living extremely comfortable lives with us in suffolk now. thanks for everything. this is an amazing centre!!

hi everyone, just thought I`d let you no how jack and jill (fantasy) are getting on. What a difference a year makes, last year jack was so frightened at the fireworks this year he is standing at the backdoor tail wagging, and the odd bark and jill took no notice. Jack now will trot at the side of you with no lead and so will jill when we get on the home lane with no muzzle, I thought she would be alot harder as she hated small anilmals, thankyou all

We have the same problem with our male greyhound, Ted, who wees on the floor at regular intervals. Have you logged on to the forum - there are a few threads on there about dogs who are hard to train - not that there are any solutions but it makes you feel better that you are not the only one clearing up a gallon of greyhound wee first thing in the morning (or when you get in after a short time away!!) the forum has a link from this website and everyone is very friendly on there.

Debra, just a suggestion about the weeing in the night, we have a lovely boy called Gus from Clarkes Farm we have had him for 15months now but for the first three months he would wee and poo every night in the kitchen. It came to mind that he might be scared being left downstairs on his own so I slept downstairs with him and he was fine no more wee or poo, it took three weeks to go from sleeping with him in the same room to leaving the light on and the TV on low and returning to my bed, he has never looked back and is dry and clean at night, hope this helps

this is just a note to find out if anyone else is having the same problems as us with our greyhound pat weeing on the floor in the kitchen most mornings having been in there overnight we walk him regularly 3-4 times a day removing his water after tea time at 7 and giving him a last walk at about 10-30-11 are there any tips recommended to stop their dogs fouling on the floor overnight we tried putting dog repellant down but that still seems to make no difference even going down to him at 6 he has already done the deed and i know he has no medical condition preventing him from holding it til much later any help would be much appreciated.

Searching for a possible "replacement"/successor for Speedy (my beloved, big, black, bouncy friend, who died in June) I was delighted to see that you stock his books... His spirit lives on in his legacy, and he might even inspire new owners/rehomers. I am on the brink of committing myself to A.N.Other Greyhound, but am a bit unsettled housewise at the moment, hence the window-shopping...

for all of you wonderful people that have rescued greyhounds from steve and sandra and met my dog Kiara the big fluffy blonde leonberger, I just wanted to let you know that kiara Lou died on Tuesday afternoon at the place that she loved, `clarks farm` she was only 7 and a half and my time with her has just been too short. she loved the greyhounds especially Timmy, Mikey and of course alfie. meg and her had a strange sort of friendship a bit of love and hate as grandad Cobb could tell you. Kiara Lou will always live on in my heart and the farm will always be a special place. Thank you to all of you that took time to pet, feed and love Kiara when i wasnt there. Kiara Lou my soulmate my best friend I miss you so much.xxxx

For all you parents/greyhound owners out there who have children on school holidays at the moment, i can empathise with you 100%; their canine equivalents are no different!! :) Roll on the Autumn term! That Kristin is such a madam (i told Martin to not be fooled by that demure look, and that the girl has character). Just like Ruthie did, she too loves shoes (been watching too much Trinny and Suzannah- needless to say, that programme is now banned in this household :)) It's a wonder she has any space to sleep with all the shoes piled on her bed. This morning i got home from work and saw a pair of Martin's best shoes laying in the damp grass, having been there overnight :) As for Sonny, i knew i'd regret allowing him to take up that six week acupressure night class course at the Suffolk College. I get home from a night shift, snuggle up in my bed only to be rudely awoken by a wet nose pressing at strategic (probably random- he's only been doing it for two weeks) points along my spine and neck under the duvet!! No wonder i've been going into work like a sleep deprived Zombie. Would never be without them though. Love them to bits.

Hi all, just want to give an update on Kristin. That girl has had some of the saddest looking pair of eyes i have ever seen. Heart wrenching. However, today i have seen a re-kindling of light in her eyes, and she has started playing with toys. She is also a barker! :) which we are so chuffed about as Ruthie was an excellent watch dog, unlike Jetty the wannabe watch dog, who just peers through the fence and watch :) Our neighbour had visitors today, and Kristin was patroling the fence looking most disgusted, and barking. It seems she is the new alpha female, and Jetty seems quite happy with that, however Jetty did momentarily put her in her place this evening (that girl can hold her own :) ), but all in all, Jetty, Kristin and Sonny are getting on really well. I've always been opposed to dogs on human's bed's, but Kristin having been in a previous home obviously was used to it and last night spent the night cuddled up with Martin on his bed :) He loved it :) It's his bed so who am i to argue? :)
| Andy | 11 August 2007 00:00:00 |
I forgot to add. Since the light has reappeared in Kristin's eyes, she is even more harder to differentiate between herself and Jetty. My neighbour, Charlie, who has always adored Jetty is confused, :) so i've told him 'look for the blue house collar, that's her.' :) Martin, family members and even myself on occasions have been confused between the two sisters. On various occasions i have called Jet only to realise it is Kristin, and vice-versa. They are an impressive looking pair. Glossy black greyhounds are certainly eye catching, albeit confusing when you have two of them :) I love to see the head turning of drivers of passing cars, but who can blame them? I'd be the same :)
| Rachel(Meg and Jasper) | 10 August 2007 00:00:00 |
Hi Andy thats great you have another ! i bet hes lovely and kristin :)
| Andy | 09 August 2007 00:00:00 |
Life is just so strange, and none more stranger than the past few days. For a long time now i've been of the belief that there is no such thing as coincidence, only synchronicity. Unlike myself, Martin is not particularly religious, but in my living room is a beautiful statue of my favourite Saint, Saint Anthony of Padua. Patron saint of lost things and said to be a miracle worker. I thought it odd that on the day Ruthie passed, Martin placed her photos around the statue. He later placed white lillys and candles. Whilst we were driving to Clarks farm to look for a companion for Jet who was seriously pining and i feared she too might die, of a broken heart, he confessed to me that he had prayed to St Anthony to help us. Lisa (at Clark's farm) was absolutely brilliant and said, 'I know the dog for you' and showed us Kristin (whose name incidently means follower of Christ -similar to a saint?) However, Martin was too grief stricken, and would not decide because he felt guilty and felt he was being disrepectful to his girl. I happened to see Kristin's pedigree and saw that she was related to Ruthie. On the way home this crossed my mind again and i then wondered if Ruthie (who unfortunately did not have any puppies) might have nieces or nephews by her one other brother (Sonny) and sister (Salem's elite) that we might be able to trace and adopt? I went on greyhound data website and my heart sank when i realised they too had no offspring, and was just about to log off when my heart leapt on seeing her brother Sonny was up for adoption and has been for nine months! He was not at Clark's farm which for us would have really been the icing on the cake and even more special, but in Romford. Today, (Martin's birthday) Sonny came home. Couldn't have wished for a more perfect tribute for Ruthie and birthday present for Martin. It is so spooky though, because he is just like her, similar characteristics, but in a different coat (brindle - see Son of Bingsey on greyhound data website).

Judy and Brian, thankyou so much for your lovely message. The kindness and support we have received during this horrible time has been overwhelming. To us Ruthie was very special, but didn't quite realise just how many hearts she had touched in her all too short life. We like to think that with her lovely nature and the many people she met over the last year of her life, she helped to promote greyhounds, and challenged much undeserved stero-type and misconception. Hope to meet Ellie and your good selves someday on one of the greyhound walks. x

Just a note to say that we got tommy - (murph diver) earlier this year. He has settled in very well, gets very spoilt by our family- is very shy and is scared of thunder and fireworks - he hides in tinny corners, and shakes. He loves his food and gets very excited when he come in the front door. He is very cheeky, he has worked out how to open the living room door, so we have has to put a latch on it, otherwise he thinks the sofa is his bed and we dont want that.
| Andy | 05 August 2007 00:00:00 |
Kristin arrived at her retirement home today, and anyone would think she has always been here :) Herself and Jet have been stuck like glue. Jetty showed her around the garden before showing her, her race-track and they had a little race. It was so lovely to see Kristin running free, and to see Jetty having the spirit to run again since Ruthie's passing. That girl has been so miserable and it's lovely to see that sparkle back in her eye and that tail of hers just won't stop wagging. Kristin had only been in the garden a few minutes before a suicidal rabbit dared to venture in and she missed it by inches. That's the spirit my girl :) Right now she is relaxing on her new bed. Words along could never express the thanks and gratitude we both feel for what Clark's farm have done for us.

Dear Andy, When we first got our Ellie we read many ,many of your comments and realised you were a very devoted g/h addict. We were very sorry to hear of your sad loss but so pleased to read todays entry. It must have been a wonderful moment to see the first meeting of your new dog. Regards Judy & Brian

After such intense sadness and grief in the past few days, it's hard to describe what welcome respite from the pain it gave us to visit Clark's farm today. Steve (forever wise) and Liz have been such a comfort to us, and we will be forever grateful. Because Ruthie was mainly Martin's dog i decided he and Jetty should choose a new house mate and loyal companion, however there is such a heart-breaking selection of dogs needing good homes Martin was unable to decide. However, we have now made our decision, Kirsten. Once we have finished working our magick on her (copious amount of love, good food, grooming etc) she will be Jetty's twin :) and an impressive pair too. Glossy black with similar tuxedo colouring, and obviously got on very well with each other. However, i would urge anyone looking for a grey to look at Minty. Such a beautiful dog, but Jetty could not bare the competition on the good looks and character stakes :) Snotty little madam :) Give her love, supplements, good food etc too and i have no doubt you will be well rewarded in a short space of time and she has such a wonderful temperament.

A little over a year ago we adopted a beautiful white and brindle girl called Ruthie. Tragically her life was cut short today and we are heartbroken. She was absolutely special. However, just wanted to say a big thankyou for Clarks Farm - Steve, Sandra, Catherine, Liz, both for the hard work and dedication you put in for these beautiful dogs and also for the unfortunately too short months that Ruthie enriched our lives with her unconditional love. Keep up the good work. You gave her the opportunity to enjoy over a year's retirement and happiness.

| Mary | 23 July 2007 00:00:00 |
We have had Peanut since Jan now and I would just like to say to all who work at Clarks Farm thank you for finding me the most perfect dog he is a huge loveable baby and growing more and more confirdent everyday he is still scared of the post when the post man throws it in the door especially if he is sleeping but he no longer runs and hides he stands his ground and growles wagging his tail and tries to talk I am sure it wont be long for him to grab it and put it in his bed
| Sue | 09 July 2007 00:00:00 |
I find it quite strange when you say your greys get up early. We have 2 greyhounds used to be 3 but one died a few months ago and they "dont do" mornings in fact they are most put out if they have to go out or wake up before 10am. My other half has to really coax them out the door at 7.30 am. They love the odd weekend we are all off together and have a lay in. After they have their early morning walk they are straight back to bed and are totally zonked till somthing interesting enough happens that they think warrents there attention.
| teresa | 04 July 2007 00:00:00 |
we had the early morning waking for a while too. now we have got ourselves another grey the problem has stopped! i think he just used to wake up and be lonely. they now sleep til about 6 which isn't so bad, it dosn't seem to make any difference what time they go to bed.
| rowena | 01 July 2007 00:00:00 |
Why don't you look at the forum, where there are lots of likeminded people, most with greys and all with lots of thoughts on every subject going! We are a friendly bunch, lots of Clarks Farm owners who could have a chat with you through the forum on any concerns you might have. Hope you find the right way forward.

If you are going to buy a dog i would suggest you get Matilda or Lark or both. Mum said if we had a bigger house we could have them, but if you want you could buy her a huge house
| Bev | 24 June 2007 00:00:00 |
Can anyone help, we have had our greyhound for just 7 weeks and he regularly wakes up every morning between 3 and 4 am. We have tried going to bed later (we have even stayed up until midnight) but it makes no difference. We have even tried giving him a few drops of valerian in his water but that makes no difference either. Does any one else have this trouble or has any one other suggestions we might try?

Broken-hearted after I lost my beautiful 6 yrd old Sam to epiliepsy this Feb. Trying to build the courage to get another dog, but keep worrying about leaving them as I work. Any constructive thoughts from any of you would be helpful.

Just like to say thanks to Steve & Co for arranging for us to have Stella, formerly (Lordsbury Maria).Settled in fine managing the stairs when it suits her fine now. Needs to be watched with her chewing though, already lost a remote for the digibox and we all put away our shoes now! Have had her a month now and has been off the lead quite a bit in the park. The first time she went ballistic and there was no controlling her but now she does as she is told.

I am 11 yo and i have 3 greyhounds and they are wonderful spot, ashby and solo. Spot was used for puppy farming and we got her when she was 11 and now she is about 13. Ashby is the top dog but loves to bark my mum used to work for the police and she got handed in at 4 weeks old and guess what my mum took her and now she is 14. Then solo is the youngest one and quite playful she is 8 now and we got her when she was about 2. greyhounds are lovely dogs but given the chance they will hog the sofa when i sometimes leave my door open at night they are always the first to get in there. We have 3 dogs that sometimes come over to our house for a day and they all run around the field and have a play i love greyhounds so much. love Molly *X*X*X*X*
| daisy | 25 May 2007 00:00:00 |
mum said we could of had Lark if we had a bigger house and we did not have 4 dogs all ready

I adopted 'Cutting Corners' now known as 'Flash' in February and he has settled in well. He's already best friends with the dog and cat we had already and is a much loved part of our family, it's like we've never not had him. He's lovely to walk and is very well behaved when out, we couldn't ask for a better family dog.
| daisy robbins | 20 May 2007 00:00:00 |

Further to Heather's comments on the 29th April, I would just like to put her mind at rest and advise that we have rehomed' Hammer 'and have changed his name to Scooby. He only came home with us yesterday but he has settled in well and loves his food, he also has his own bed with Scooby Doo on it. We think he is going to be a great dog to have around and we love him so much already. We will keep you posted about his progress and love this Website ,lots of news and useful information, we are thinking of joining in the dog walk in Southend on the 26th May.
| Emma | 06 May 2007 00:00:00 |
I live fairly near the centre and I'm getting a greyhound soon from Clarks Farm. I really like Sam and Podge! I think it's great that you run this centre for retired and abandoned greyhounds as I think that they are so misunderstood but lovely. Keep up the good work Clarks Farm!
| Rachel | 05 May 2007 00:00:00 |
hey all | |
| Brenda, Southend on Sea | 03 May 2007 00:00:00 |
Just to inform walkers who intend coming to Southend on 26th May but are not local that dogs are not allowed on the sand now (only in winter). However there is a good pavement along the promenade, and some dogs even prefer it as the shingle can be a bit uncomfortable for paws. The Chalkwell end of town is lovely, none of the loud amuzements and kiss-me-quick shops, that's all up at the Southend end. Happy strolling, enjoy your walk
| Phoebe | 02 May 2007 00:00:00 |
I would just like to say, that i think this is the best thing ever. Its great, that there is a rescue centre for retired or misstreated hounds. My dog jane just recenltly passed away last week. My parents have been looking for greyhounds and stumbled across this centre on the motorway. We really like the dog Susie and Nipper. we would really like to adopt them. This is such a wonderfull site. Great help.

Hal (Live Customer) has been ruling the roost here since the end of October. He's settled in really well - thanks Steve for saying he would suit us. He's learnt that he shouldn't jump onto our bed until 07.00 - later in the day he often drags his blanket onto our bed, as though he's reserving it for later! He welcomes all visitors to the house - very boisterously, if not controlled!. He enjoys sprinting around our garden and playing with squeaky toys around the house - presents from family. He loves going out in the car - today it was Rendlesham Forest, where he was very taken by a herd of deer which he wanted to chase. We hope to return to Clark's Farm during the summer to find a companion for him.
| Richard & Jill | 08 April 2007 00:00:00 |
we just want to say thankyou for alfie, (dip the wick). He has fitted into our family lovely and has made himself at home on the sofas. We all have to fight for a seat because if you make him get off he gets back on and just sits on you. Jill want to come over and get another 1 ,but i have trouble fitting into my own bed as it is . Thanks steve and crew for doing such a great job with these guys and gals.
| Jodie | 05 April 2007 00:00:00 |
we have had peggy-sue for over 3 years now, when she first came to our home everything used to frighten her at home and when she went for walks but now we can let her off her lead up the park and she has made lots of new friends who she loves running around with she has become a bit of an attention seeker when out on walks and crys when she see's people so they give her a fuss! peggy-sue had a trip back to see steve and the gang at clarks farm and she was very excited to see them all again! I will send you some pictures and i'm sure you will agree she has got very big!

Just to let you know that Tansy (nee Nattitude) has settled down wonderfully and is the soppiest thing you've ever known. Her and Paddy (our Stafrador) are perfect mates and love nothing more than running up and down the garden chasing tennis balls together. I've emailed a picture of the two of them sharing a large bone the day before yesterday - and funny enough - Tansy loves bread too! Love Owen and Mandi Morgan, Tansy and Paddy

She is soooo affectionate and kisses all the time. the naughty two some escaped round and round the garden thinking it was such a funny game. mmm, the grass is a bit ripped up now! | Stewart + Helen | 04 February 2007 00:00:00 |
We visited Clarks farm 2 weeks ago and walked 2 greyhounds, kennel mates, "CP" and "Three Bees". We decided to home "Three Bees". Two days later we had a home check and two more days later we went back to Clarks farm to bring "Three Bees" to his "Forever" home. From day one "Three Bee" has been a fantastic companion to us both. "Three Bee" loves being groomed daily and cannot wait until meal times. "Three Bee" sleeps well through the night and shakes his ID tags to let us know if he wants to go out at night. With each walk, "Three Bee" is becoming less timid and learns extremely quickly. We hope "CP" finds his "Forever" home quickly too. It was difficult not to bring "CP" home too. Thank you to everyone at Clarks farm for looking after these wonderful greyhounds and for matching us up with "Three Bee". It can clearly be seen that you are ALL very dedicated to the welfare of greyhounds and we wish you every success in rehoming as many greyhounds as possible. If anyone is browsing through these pages, please consider a greyhound as a pet/companion. "Three Bee" is our first greyhound and will not be our last!

Hello Watson family | |
| Watson Family | 21 January 2007 00:00:00 |
Hi everyone - we brought "Tea" home yesterday (20th Jan 07) and we wanted to say a huge thank you to Clarks Farm for the perfect dog. He is so laid back and gentle and just takes all the attention from our 3 kids in his stride. He gets totally excited when the coat comes out and he knows he's off for walkies though oddly enough wasn't so interested in going out late in the evening when it had got really cold!! He had a really good first night and is loving all the praise (and gravy biscuits) - will keep everyone updated on him as he settles into his new family. Good luck to all the other dogs that are in need of a home - we will certainly be recommending Clarks Farm to everyone we know - special hello to CP and Kev who we also took for a walk yesterday - we loved you too but sadly could only take one dog home with us!!

Just thought I'd let you all know that we brought Tiger into our family on Friday 12th January! He is a truly fantastic dog, everything we wanted in a Greyhound and more! He is the first Greyhound we have ever owned and we are totally smitten with him. He is wonderful with our 3 children, all our visitors have fallen in love with him, he is a true star. He has settled in so well, I was amazed, as I had expected some 'teething' problems but he is just perfect. He is enjoying plenty of lovely walks around the Norfolk countryside, adores his bed and is smothered with love and affection by us all. Thanks Clarks Farm for giving us a wonderful Grey!!!!

Hello all, we adopted Jake (aka Rydeonkjake) last year in June. He has settled in really well and we are incredibly happy with him. Only problem we have is trying to get him out for walks, as he is terrified of traffic and small animals :D. Infact we counldn't even get him out at all, until we were suggested a harness where we were able to have greater control over him, now we only have the trouble of getting the harness on him lol. Though we have managed to take him for many walks, although he still dislikes it but, once we are off the road and onto the river he calms down. Now he has found his feet, and is definetly a mummy's boy. He also has mad moments where he will race from the bottom of the hallway all the way to the end of the garden and back. On other times he has excessive wind. Is there any cure? lol. Overall Jake has been a fantastic dog and we are incredibly happy to own him. We also wanna thank all of the people down at clarks farm, who do a fantastic job working with the Greyhounds. We would to especially want to thank Catherine for all her help she gave in choosing to adopt a Greyhound and secondly to Wendy, 'our social worker' as andy puts it, for her patience and reassuring us on the topic about having a greyhound.

I'm having an end of year (2006) moment of nostalgia and reminiscence here as i peruse the previous messages. I have so enjoyed this guest book. Met some really nice people, shared a few moments, had some laughs. However, sad to see no further messages of late have been posted on here. Being a typical Old Fogey Capricorn who doesn't particularly like change; as we don't always believe it is for the best, however, i have to admit. The recent incarnation of the forum has seen me swept up in its vibrancy and enthusiasm. Quite ironic maybe, that this should happen at the end of 2006 when Old Father Time is seeing out his last hours, in readiness for the birth of baby New Year. I feel 2007 and the forum maybe heralds good things for 2007 and Clark's farm. Maybe Old Father time will decide to take the Guest book with him? Who knows? Only time itself will tell. However, if he does, i shall always have fond memories of it. Have a great New Year all. x
| Joan | 30 December 2006 00:00:00 |

How I would have loved to have come to the open day yesterday but my husband put his foot down and said no as he knew I would have loved of had a look at Blue and Perdy its as if these two hounds are not enough as well as our old mongrol and 3 cats and a guinee pig. Jack has come right out of his shell now he is not the same shy dog as he was a couple of months ago. I think getting jilly has helped that and both are getting ver good apart from the odd occation. It is truly wonderful to see them playing.
| rachel | 18 December 2006 00:00:00 |

Kelly and i went along to the open day today, I so can not believe how much Clarks Farm has changed since we got Kelly a year ago! Well, Kelly thoroughly enjoyed herself, all the fussing and peoplelling her she was so pretty, gonna have to be careful, think i have a diva in the making now! I was amased, though, how worried she was going back in there, she looked at me at the gate as if to say mummy, don't you love me any more?!?!?!? As soon as we got in there and she saw Steve, and crew and relaised she was only there to visit, she was more than happy to have a fuss and say howdy to all the other dogs!
| rachel | 17 December 2006 00:00:00 |
do you no what i think would be good a page for pictures of the greyhounds because we have some realy cute pics of meg dressed up in christmas stuff

I can't believe I've missed the open day!! Its my own fault as I haven't been looking at the site very often in the last few weeks what with christmas and everything! Think you should have some more open days (any excuse to come and visit the dogs!) Also wanted to say a forum is a great idea! Happy Christmas to all! PS Thanks Sue for your kind message! xx
| Andy | 16 December 2006 00:00:00 |
Just wanted to say that today i received photos from Paul Duffett (flame photos) and they were excellent. It was only by chance that i noticed (via greyhound-data website) that Jetty in her short career had ran at Crayford, also. By luck, Paul had one single photo of her; and it was a really nice one, just crossing the finishing line. Brought a lump to my throat i can tell ya. A photo of my babe on her school sports day! Ruthie had bought one for daddy Martin with her pocket money for Christmas, but Jetty threw a tantrum because she wanted to get him one too. So, thank God, Paul did have one. She had already spent her pocket money on sweets though, so muggings here once again had to shell out! So, any of you lot got dogs who raced at Crayford, give Paul a shout. His details were given in the messages further down.
| Andy | 16 December 2006 00:00:00 |
Oh yes, and just one more thing (even i can't believe i just said that :-) .... *all those greyhoundee's out there thinking 'shut-up gob-sh*te; let us get a word in edge- ways!*
| rachel | 16 December 2006 00:00:00 |

I can't help but think it will be no suprise who wins the 'Guestbook Poster of 2006' in the Clarks Farm Annual Awards.
| Sally | 16 December 2006 00:00:00 |
Hi im rachel bonners friend. Rachels been telling me how great clarks farm is so i thought id have a look at the website. I was going to come to the open day tomorrow but i couldnt make it. I think that you are doing a great job and if i could have any of the greyhounds it would be Will or Euro
| Anja Kerrison | 16 December 2006 00:00:00 |
There's a prize??? Damn! I wish you'd told me that earlier, Liz!
| Andy | 16 December 2006 00:00:00 |
Sally, you're obviously a woman of my own heart, as i too cannot understand why Euro has spent so long in the kennels. He is so handsome!! If it wasn't for the fact i prefer bitches i would have dog-napped him over the fence of Clark's farm in the dead of night months ago! Don't worry about their CCTV. A bit of Nivea smeared on the lense would have confused them. And if you got caught just say you're Wendy, then run. If you are able to do so, and have the means to support him, take him. I promise you, you won't ever regret taking on a greyhound as they are so comical, and such good companions. Besides, there are enough of us on here to give you the support to see you on the way of enjoyment of dog ownership. Sharon, really enjoyed your messages over the past weeks, and have a great Christmas you two. Kelly not going out? (Jetty and Ruthie are muttering under their breath right now- 'What's wrong with the girl? She must be mad!'... Those two practically rip my arms off when it's time for their walks). Try to excite her. When you have her collar and lead in your hand use your voice in an up-beat manner to instil excitement and enthusiasm in her. Tell her all sorts of nonsense (like i do to my two). Then walk confidently out of the front door. Anja, a forum sounds like a fabulous idea. It took me months to realise this wasn't one ;-) And the reason i was sitting there til the early hours of the morning waiting for a response (having previously sent a message at 6pm), was because it is a guest book. The shame!
| rachel | 16 December 2006 00:00:00 |
i know wot you mean sal and andy Euro is such a cuttie and perdy is such a little sweet heart i would take her this minute if i could se you 2moz clarks farm bi xxxxxx

| Sally | 16 December 2006 00:00:00 |
I would take a greyhound home anyday but i have two small white fluffy dogs. But when i am older i am DEFINATELY getting a greyhound. I have seen rachels greyhound meg loads of times and she is such a charecter and so loving!
| Andy | 16 December 2006 00:00:00 |
Registered my name (Andy) for the chat room. what a great idea. I hope, and sure people will use it. Ok, another new topic here. Other dog owners. Whose out-of-control dogs (generally labradors and Jack Russells, it seems) are left off the lead, runs up to your dog yapping and snarling (with Jetty risking a life sentence for murder) and their vacuous owner just saunters past with that inane smile on their face! Couldn't you just punch their lights out!?
| Andy | 15 December 2006 00:00:00 |
Just been looking at the fabulous calendar featured on here. However, don't let Jetty Campbell and Ruthie Moss know i have been looking at it; as they are in total disgust that they are not featured. Such Divas! I'd hate for Miss Jet Campbell to have a tantrum and attack me with a mobile phone! I'm away for the weekend, but on my return i shall be sending off a cheque. What a great extra Christmas present.
| LIZ | 15 December 2006 00:00:00 |
Andy and everyone else | |
| Andy | 15 December 2006 00:00:00 |
Liz, why did you have to say that!? You do realise my life is going to be hell from now until it happens! Already they are practicing their poses, prancing up and down the living room like a couple of self-deluded Super-Models, and booking manicure, tanning sessions etc! I blame that Beckham woman for my girls' un-natural obssession with skininess! Oops, gotta go, Jetty is coming for me with a mobile phone in her paw! If i'm still alive by monday i shall send a cheque in the post for the calendar. Bye all, have a good weekend. OUCH! OUCH! OUCH! Mercy Jetty!!
| Andy | 15 December 2006 00:00:00 |
(Written whilst awaiting treatment at the local casualty department)....Liz, i too put in my nomination. I told them straight. Give Clark's farm your money. If not, Wen and i know where you live!!
| Andy | 15 December 2006 00:00:00 |
Caroline, it must be pandemic! The logs in my fire basket too have been reduced to kindling (thank God it wasn't the piano). And as for the TV Christmas guide? Not even salvageable as squares for the privy door! Do you know what i think is the cause for this mindless act of vandalism. No mention of a Catherine Tate Christmas special, of whom i and the girls love. Shame about the mag though. There was a lovely piece on Alma Cogan! :-)
| Joan | 15 December 2006 00:00:00 |
We have Miss Begotty known as Beggy in the kennels. She has been with us nearly a year and is really a beautiful dog. I would recommend a greyhound to any owner they are such loving and easy dogs to own. My only problem is that she has urinated twice on our carpet in the same place which is isn't bad for having her a year. I want to know if anyone has any good suggestions on getting the stain out. Although my carpet has scotchguard on this didn't really help.
| rowena | 15 December 2006 00:00:00 |
Thanks for all this discussion on the bodily functions of the grey hounds! Well, we have had three nights without barking so i am feeling a bit more sane with some uninterrupted sleep. However, two nights were clean and the third had a wee to show for it. Ted hears me get up to go to the loo in the morning and he obviously couldn't wait another 5 mins. We have been putting paper down on the floor and he had wee'd on that but it was obvious that it was fresh. We had taken them for a good walk just before bed time as well and he had been down the garden when he got home and completed his business so he had definitely been! We love him to bits - he is such a lovely dog, so we are looking forward to getting on top of this. We are thinking of buying them proper beds - at the mo they sleep on quilts but I think they might get cold in the night when the heating is off. We feed them at lunch time so that isn't the problem - when we fed them at 5pm he poo'd every night! Although we work, our sons are at home with them so they are rarely left for more than a couple of hours - maybe he just hasn't had to build up any stamina and length of 'hold'! Ted is the nervous one of the two and he is very nervous when he is out on the lead so he doesn't like doing his business on the lead - he waits till he goes in the garden! Thanks Liz for your offer of help after Christmas. I am enjoying reading everyones comments - how different all the dogs are. Mine never steal food - although Ted did pull the bin over once, it scared him so much he has not done it since! He stacks the shoes of the house up in his bed though. He makes me laugh because he steals shoes if I am on the phone - its like he wants my attention!

Like Jet who follows Andy everywhere, Spooky is the same with me (a real mummy's boy). Even if I get up off the sofa just to turn the light off Spooky is up, if I go into the kitchen to clear up after dinner he stands behind me so that when I turn round I trip over him or tread on his toes. I popped upstairs last night for about 30 minutes and when I came down the dogs were both on their beds (ahhh they are good so I thought). I then went into the lounge to turn all the lights off and I found my Christmas TV magazine (which I had just bought and not yet read) in the middle of the floor with the bottom all chewed up. Obvoiusly one of the dogs had got hold of it (I think probably Pebbles) decided there was not much on over Christmas and decided to rip the mag up. I went into the kitchen with half the magazine in my hand and they both looked at me with those big brown soppy eyes as if to say "mum would we really do that to your mag" (they certainly know how to get away with things).
| Wendy | 14 December 2006 00:00:00 |
Hi Liz,already done mine.Keep em coming, its for a Good Cause after all!! :O))
| Andy | 13 December 2006 00:00:00 |
Caroline, you're message had me laughing out loud. You crack me up. I love your sense of humour. Very much on par with my own (and Wen's, don't tell her i told you :-)
| Andy | 13 December 2006 00:00:00 |
Oh yes! Perhaps i am losing my faculties Wen? The reason i wrote the previous message, (i totally forgot!...Worrying). I am looking for a good book on dog behaviour/psychology that i want to buy for Martin for Christmas. Nothing too basic as i wouldn't want to insult his intelligence, and realise at the end of the day we are talking about wolves and their packs here; but if anyone has seen such a book, if in fact it exists, i would be appreciative of knowing about it.
| Andy | 13 December 2006 00:00:00 |
Your feedback Jilly got me thinking. That's what i like about this website; Interesting people with a core interest (greyhounds), supportive, and sharing their own experiences so that we can all benefit. We're very lucky really, and thanks Liz for taking time out of your busy schedule to do this for us. I've always been lead to believe a dog won't foul their own bed. Obviously untrue. How i see it, Jilly's dog suddenly stopped pooing when allowed to sleep with the rest of his pack. Perhaps it's that a dog won't foul the area the pack is in, as opposed to his bed. Probably not being allowed to sleep with his pack made him feel like an outcast? Ruthie also fouled, by urinating. However, in retrospect she was merely remarking her territory that she is very protective over (as described in previous message), and of which i had unwittenly unmarked by washing the beds. We have two dogs which keep each other company. Maybe it's that they feel secure, and still feel part of the pack even though they are sleeping in different areas, although in close proximity of the other pack members within their/our territory. I've always, until recently only owned a single dog, but i can honestly say i have had less problems in comparison by owning two. Also interesting how they seem to view us. I tend to be the more strict, (but needless to say kind) Alpha male with them as to what they can and can't do, and they seem to respect that. When i give a command they tend to do it, however, Martin (Beta male) is a bit softer with them. Alpha Ruthie is more attentive to him, and Beta Jet is more attentive to me. She's like a shadow. Wherever i go within the garden and home, she has to be there. Like i said, dog behaviour totally fascinate me. At the end of the day what we have are domesticated descendents of wolves. They still think like wolves. Like i also say, problems are not the dog's fault it is the owners, and even with my experience i still learn something new everyday regarding dog behaviour, which i think is great.

This week BBC Radio Essex is asking for nominations for a Essex Based Charities to receive donations from the shoppers collections at Lakeside Thurrock Shopping Centre. If any of you are kind enough to consider Clarks Farm Greyhound Rescue as a worthy beneficiary then perhaps you could take a moment to nominate us either by phone or email.

Just an update to let you know how spooky and Pebbles are. We have just put our chrismas trees up. We have two big bay windows at the front of the house (which the dogs normally stand and look out of) and this is where we have placed the trees. Unfortunately the dogs still think they can look out of the windows the only problem with this is when they turn around all the lights get knocked off the tree and the tinsel ends up on them.

Hi jilly I know what its like 6 oclock on the dot come rain or shine its still breakfast time
| Wendy | 12 December 2006 00:00:00 |
Hi Dan,Robbie also squats like the big girl greyhound that he is-we used to think it was a dominance thing as he;s a very nervous boy and seems to want to hide up when out on walks-the smaller he makes himself, the happier he is!
| Wendy | 12 December 2006 00:00:00 |
PS Andy and Martin-theres a nice black and white 2year old girl on the website that would coordinate lovely with Jetty and Ruthie......she would match the decor and everything!!
| rachel | 12 December 2006 00:00:00 |

| Michelle | 12 December 2006 00:00:00 |
Hi Dawn, We've had Pickle for 6 weeks, I have now started giving him dinner at about 2 and it seems to have done the trick. He definately is not shy any more. The only other problem that I have with him is that he is a bin raider and will try to pinch any kind of food out of anyones hand. He also has a fondness for nappies, whether clean or dirty. We have to be so careful but sometimes we don't think, he ate a large box of chocolates last night ( have spoken to vet just in case) he also managed to steal the kids lollipops and unwrap them leaving the stick and wrapping.

hi every one my grt uncle has a retired greyhound called trotski my grt uncle new the man that raced him and he was going to be shot but he took him and he is lovely this was about 6 years ago and we have plans to meat up with him in the summer and let the dogs meet and have a run together i am realy looking foward to it he lives in devon with 3 other dogs on a farm i went to stay there a wile ago and he is so soppy bi bi xxx
| Rowena | 12 December 2006 00:00:00 |
hi all, I thought we had the only weeing, pooing barking greyhounds - everyone else seemed to say theirs were wonderful, but now i realise that it is quite a common problem! They are such lovely dogs that we almost forgive them, but it is getting a bit trying - we have had Ted 6 months now and haven't cracked the weeing/pooing (and yes, he does wee down the back of his front legs!) and Lucy we have had for nearly two years and she barks most nights to go out at about 2am or 4am. What shall we all do? Maybe we should have a middle of the night greyhound walk as we all seem to be up anyway! I would put the dogs in the hall where they would be on carpet and cosier, but then i am afraid of the mess they would make...theres no winning! And then Ted looks at me with his big brown eyes...
| debbie | 11 December 2006 00:00:00 |
The only way Ive solved the problem of crying and barking at nights is just bring their quilts into the bedroom with us both now sleep in front of the wardrobe and that way theres no accidents at night. I no not everyone likes them in the same room at night but it does make sleeping easier
| Dan | 11 December 2006 00:00:00 |
Does anyone have any tips on how i can get Maximus to cock his leg when he does a wee? He sometimes does when he's out on a walk but more often he prefers to aim at his own front legs! Not a major problem just wondered if there was an easy solution.
| Liz | 11 December 2006 00:00:00 |
Dan, Dont worry about Max not cocking his leg - wet paws are often a way of life for male greyhound owners! My previous male rarely cocked his leg and Dan does it one in about ten wees!
| Dawn | 11 December 2006 00:00:00 |
Michelle - How long have you had Pickle? I'm guessing not very long?
| Andy | 11 December 2006 00:00:00 |
Also Dan, has he been castrated? I have limited experience of male dogs; always having had a preference for bitches. However, i did once own a handsome male Dobermann called Apollo who had to be castrated for medical reasons quite late on in his life. Suddenly, he then started squatting like a bitch. It might have been something peculiar to him, but like i said i have limited experience with male dogs. You'll have to get him some wellies :-)

Hi all, i would like others to try this and see if they have better luck than i have had. I received an email from Jet's previous owner, Dave Brown. Apparently you should be able to see video footage of your greyhounds racing? Log onto www.greyhound-data.com Type in your Greyhounds name, click races which should bring up a list. You should see a yellow and black video icon in film list. Right click this and press Save Target As. Apparently it will then download the race. I haven't had much luck, but i'm not that computer literate. If any others have success, please can they let me know where i am going wrong. By the way, have a happy holidays, all, and may 2007 be a prosperous one. Looking forward to greyhound and owners get togethers in the coming year.

Sharon, you're our first customer, and your order has been despatched, post haste. You didn't specify what material you desired, but seeing that you have subscribed to our Emporium; and you (and your babe Kelly) are obviously classy birds, and we, (Wen and i) only entertain luxurious materials, it has been sent out in 100% silk. We have no doubt that it will suit your Kelly's requirements. Blackie, your message was heart warming. Some ex racing greyhound owners are the best (e.g. Jetty's- Dave Brown, Quest house kennels), but there are some...... (shut your mouth Andy!) I'll say no more; but thank God/ess i believe in Karma! What goes around will definitely come around. Michelle. Your message frustrated me, because i so much wanted to help. I consider myself an experienced dog owner, but (see messages below) some things fox me even to date. Like i say 'think like a dog' but that's not much help because i really don't understand why your pet is pooping inappropriately? so, come on you other pack members who maybe can give Michelle an answer, and help to increase my /our knowledge of dog psychology.
| Andy | 10 December 2006 00:00:00 |
Can't help you there Jilly. Ruthie barks, but only when someone intrudes near the property. Jetty, the silent assassin don't bark. Well, that's a lie. Once! When some daft bug**r came jogging out of the bushes when she was on her walk.
